Aluminium extrusion consultancy

Practical support for your extrusion process.

I’m Ryan Erfurth. I work with extrusion companies to investigate process problems, improve recipes and support the people running the press.

About me

I’m Ryan Erfurth.

Hands-on extrusion experience. A perspective shaped by plants around the world.

Ryan Erfurth at the Aluminium Global Exhibition

I’ve built my career around extrusion — understanding how it runs, why it goes wrong and how to help a team improve it.

I started at ERNI Electronics, working with plastic extrusion for electronic connectors, before moving into aluminium extrusion as an Application Engineer at Optalex. That brought together hands-on process knowledge, commissioning, production support and troubleshooting.

Working with a wide range of press lines and production teams around the world has shown me different ways of running the same process. That perspective helps me spot recurring weaknesses and recognise useful ideas that can be adapted to another plant.

I’m comfortable working with people of all ages and experience levels, from new operators to seasoned press teams. I listen to the knowledge already on the floor, explain the reasons behind the settings, and connect established know-how with new tools and process data.

Through Press Core, you work directly with me to find the causes of process variation, develop reliable recipes and build operator confidence — from the first review through trials, training and follow-up, on site or remotely.

How I can help

Support for the work
at your press.

I can help with a specific issue or a wider process review. Together, we agree the scope around your line, your production priorities and the information available.

01

Extrusion process reviews

I review billet heating, press operation, quenching and handling alongside your recipes and working practices. I help identify where variation starts and which checks should come first.

What you receiveA review of the findings and a prioritised action plan.

02

Recipes & process settings

I review billet temperature, taper, extrusion speed, exit temperature and cooling settings. I help you develop a structured approach to master recipes, production trials and changes between shifts.

What you receiveRecipe recommendations, setting guidelines and trial records.

03

Production troubleshooting

I investigate recurring temperature issues, inconsistent runs and unexplained production losses. I compare process trends with operator observations to narrow down the likely causes.

What you receiveClear findings, proposed checks and practical actions to test.

04

Operator support & training

I work with your operators and supervisors at the press, focusing on recipe use, recognising process signals and making consistent decisions. I capture agreed practice in clear instructions and handover routines.

What you receivePractical training and working methods your team can use on shift.

05

Trials, implementation & follow-up

I support process trials, software rollout and changes to daily production. Together, we agree what to measure. I review the results with your team and help refine the approach once it is in use.

What you receiveDocumented trial results, agreed next steps and follow-up support.

What I review

Review the connections
across the line.

A temperature issue may involve more than one setting. I look at the process, equipment behaviour and working methods together to decide what to investigate.

Billet heating

Billet temperature, nose temperature, taper and furnace settings.

Press operation

Recipe settings, extrusion speed, exit temperature and run-to-run variation.

Quench & handling

Cooling settings, puller timing and coordination along the runout.

Production information

Process trends, downtime records, recipe history and shift observations.

How I work

An agreed scope.
Practical work. Clear findings.

I work directly with you and your production and technical teams. I start with the issue you need to solve and agree the approach with you.

  1. 01

    Define the issue

We discuss the press, the problem and what you want to improve. We agree the scope and the information needed before starting.

  2. 02

    Review production

I review the available trends, recipes and working methods with your team. Where direct observation is needed, we work at the press.

  3. 03

    Test the changes

We agree practical trials and compare the results against the starting point, keeping the production team involved.

  4. 04

    Put it into practice

I record the findings and help update the relevant recipes or instructions. Together, we agree any training and follow-up.

Getting started

Practical questions.

Can we start with one issue?

Yes. A recurring temperature issue, inconsistent recipe or unexplained production variation can be a useful starting point. We agree a focused scope before considering a wider review.

Do you work on site or remotely?

Both. I can often handle data reviews, preparation and follow-up remotely. I can also work with you on site for press observation, production trials and hands-on operator support.

What information should we prepare?

Start with a short description of the issue and what you want to improve. During the first conversation, we can agree which recipes, trends or production records would be useful.

at your press.

A short description of the issue and what you would like to improve is enough to start the conversation.
